This is our first time offering H.A.F. to children. We offered 20 places for 4 days. Sessions were well attended, however, we did have absentees from the original booking and decided to take on walk-ins on the day so the spaces get used. The food we ordered in advance therefore it was more beneficial to take on walk-ins. They were usually siblings of children who were already booked onto the activity so we had all parent's details.
Day 1, 2 and 3 was held at the Strand Community Hub.
Great venue for this sort of activity. As it is very spacious and tables fold away for the P.E session. We started with breakfast had fruits, yoghurt and cereals and snack bars available. We also had cheese toasties delivered from the community cafe downstairs.
Thereafter we set out crisps and general nibbles and water and drinks. Lunch was delivered at 1 pm from a catering company.
An example of what meals we had was roast chicken and potatoes and vegetable rice.
Meat Pies with chic peas rice and samosas and beans. Lasagne and garlic bread.
We did a variety of activities including mosaics and woodwork, shadow making and lego robotics. Also had various arts and crafts activities. Parents took our details and asked us to keep them posted on any other activities we will be doing.
Our Staff are not special needs trained but we rang parents and asked about the needs of the children and we managed to keep some children booked. Our staff will be looking to get SEND training in the future.
Our 4th day was at Million Pavilion. We had more or less the same activities with a different group of children as it was in a new area.
For the physical activity, we had Karen doing Karate.
Overall fun and enjoyable. here are some of the highlights.
